Disision/reaction based on cursory knowledge

There are many of us who make up their mind and make decisions based on very cursory information without going into detail analysis and acquiring proper knowledge, thus make short term gain at the cost of long term benefit. And this is the reason why people don’t take environmental issues seriously.

Following story let us understand how people make wrong interpretation based on cursory knowledge:

One old man was sitting with his 25 years old son in the train.

Train is about to leave the station.

All passengers are settling down their seat.

As train started young man was filled with lot of joy and curiosity.

He was sitting on the window side.

He went out one hand and feeling the passing air. He shouted, "Papa see all trees are going behind".

Old man smile and admired son feelings.

Beside the young man one couple was sitting and listing all the conversion between father and son.

They were little awkward with the attitude of 25 years old man behaving like a small child.

Suddenly young man again shouted, "Papa see the pond and animals. Clouds are moving with train".

Couple was watching the young man in embarrassingly.

Now its start raining and some of water drops touches the young man's hand.

He filled with joy and he closed the eyes.

He shouted again," Papa it's raining, water is touching me, see papa".

Couple couldn't help themselves and ask the old man.

"Why don't you visit the Doctor and get treatment for your son."

Old man said,

“Yes, we are coming from the hospital as Today only my son got his eye sight for first time in his life".

Moral: "Don't draw conclusions until you know all the facts".

Save Electricity

We tend to take electricity for granted, thinking it will always be there for us to use. Wrong. Electricity is powered mostly by natural resources, such as water and fossil fuel which are rapidly being exhausted. For everyone to share electricity as efficiently as possible we must use it sparingly.

·         Turn off unneeded lights

·         Use energy saver bulbs

·         Unplug seldom used appliances

Why should we take care of environment and why have I chosen the topic “Save World and Environment” because the world’s environmental problems grow with the numbers of humanity, if we do not care, as follows:

1.                   The quality of the air will get poorer.

2.                   There will be less fresh water to go round.

3.                   Biodiversity will be lost because of pollution.

4.                   If we continue to chop down forest, there will be no forest which will impact the environment, weather and living things.

5.                   The climate will be changing quite rapidly as a result of human caused emissions of greenhouse gases.

6.                   There will be fewer and fewer fish in the seas.

7.                   The climate would be very hot and would result in the melting down of all the glaciers.

8.                   The result of melting of glacier would be raising in sea level hence many islands and coastal area would be diminished.

Something to make you stop and think

Dialogue between two friends on Environment:

Hasanain: We should take care of our environment otherwise it would be difficult for us and our future generation to live in this world.

Amin: Buddy why should we worry about something which does not have impact on us directly who knows after twenty years where we would be.

Hasanain: I think you should read following story if you think that environmental changes will not have impact on your life like cow, pig and chicken were thinking in the story.

Story

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall

to see the farmer and his wife open a package.

"What food might this contain?"  The mouse wondered.

He was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.

Retreating to the farmyard,
the mouse proclaimed this warning:
"There is a mousetrap in the house!
There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The chicken clucked and scratched,
raised her head and said, "Mr. Mouse,
I can tell this is a grave concern to you,
but it is of no consequence to me.
I cannot be bothered by it."
The mouse turned to the pig and told him,
"There is a mousetrap in the house!
There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The pig sympathized, but said,
"I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse,
but there is nothing I can do about it
but pray..
Be assured you are in my prayers."
the mouse turned to the cow and said,
"There is a mousetrap in the house!
There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The cow said, "Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you,
but it's no skin off my nose.."
So, the mouse returned to the house,
head down and dejected,
to face the farmer's mousetrap
. . .. Alone......
That very night
a sound was heard throughout the house
-- the sound Of a mousetrap catching its prey..
The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught.
In the darkness, she did not see it.
It was a venomous snake
whose tail was caught in the trap.
The snake bit the farmer's wife.

The farmer rushed her to the hospital.

When she returned home she still had a fever.
Everyone knows you treat a fever
with fresh chicken soup.
So the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard
for the soup's main ingredient:
But his wife's sickness continued.
Friends and neighbors
came to sit  with her
around the clock.
To feed them,
the farmer butchered the pig.
But, alas,
the farmer's wife did not get well...
She died.

So many people came for her funeral
that the farmer had the cow slaughtered
to provide enough meat for all of them
for the funeral luncheon.
And the mouse looked upon it all
from his crack in the wall
with great sadness.
So, the next time you hear
someone is facing a problem
and you think it doesn't concern you,
remember ---

When one of us is threatened, we are all at risk.
We are all involved in this journey called life.
We must keep an eye out for one another
and make an extra effort
to encourage one another.

Save Water

Fluid and resilient, water is the basic for life, trade, sustenance and nature. However, more than 2 billion people no longer have a safe supply of water; toxic waste and pollution have slowly poisoned their basis of survival. Using water carefully will help you our limited resources go a long way.

Conserve water usage in the home by:
·         Washing fruits and vegetables in the pan instead of under running water.
·         Turning off the tap when brushing your teeth.
·         Hand washing clothes instead of using in washing machine.

Save Trees

Trees serve much vital function in our immediate environment; smoothing to the eye, bearing fruit, providing homes for other wildlife, breathing oxygen into the atmosphere. Most importantly – they prevent landslides when natural disasters like flood occur. Stop deforestation
-Save trees:
·         Plant your own trees.
·         Use both sides of the paper when printing.
·         Use E-mail for frequent communication.

Save the environment by using cloth bags

A common estimate is that global consumption of plastic bags is over 500 billion annually, out of which not even a quarter are reused. Instead, they are left to litter the environment and find their way into our waterways and streets. Plastic bags kill animals and once thrown away, take about 1,000 years to decompose.
The solution?
  • Stop using plastic bags.
  • Go shopping with a cloth bag instead. They’re strong and reliable, hold more than plastic bags and are good for the environment.
